Miguel Cotto’s power is one of the things Team Pacquiao has to look after, but it doesn’t matter. “I’ll train Manny not to get it”, Freddie Roach said. The 2008 Trainer Of The Year also seems unbothered with the way they had to adjust themselves. Due to the US immigration rules, Manny Pacquiao must spend 5 weeks outside the United States. Because of that, Roach said Manny will mostly train in Baguio (Philippines) before flying to his Wildcard Gym in Hollywood.
Before the contract was finalized between Pacquiao and Cotto, it could have been Sugar Shane Mosley Pacquiao will fight next. Sugar Shane Mosley had been the pound-for-pound king in boxing before Manny Pacquiao overtook him, as the latter is now the current pound-for-pound king and ESPN’s Best Fighter awardee. On the other hand, Miguel Cotto is WBO’s Welterweight champ. Freddie Roach said that it was his decision to go after Cotto. After both sides agreed upon the 65/35 shares plus Cotto’s belt on the line, this would be another big event. The event will be on November 14, 2009 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. This is Manny’s final fight before the end of the year.
Manny Pacquio is coming off in his knockout win against Ricky Hatton, while Miguel Cotto previously won against Sugar Shane Mosley. Pacquiao is the first Asian to win 6 titles and if he defeat Cotto, it would be his 7th title — the first in boxing history.
